Prototype Release

Context

After submitting "Spiritual Facade" 4 hours before the deadline, I plan to resume working on Azeline, my long term project. However, I can't compel myself to labor on this project that has been in development hell for years at this point. It feels overwhelming, and I realized that work ethics tainted with procrastination would not suffice to develop my cherished project to its full potential.

So, I decided to develop another game, any small project to awaken this inner developer inside my heart. It is meant to cultivate a drive and more efficient work ethic needed to develop Azeline.

Princess-Maker but Evil?

I reach out to the artist whose sprite I used for my previous game, "Spiritual Facade". She express interest to work on a long term project with me. However, that project should be small scale because I need to continue developing Azeline.  While I am brainstorming something we might enjoy doing, I noticed that she is playing "Princess Maker: Child of the Revelation". So, I thought, why not develop the type of game my potential partner already enjoys playing. So, I begin to work on the prototype.

Release

While working on the prototype, my bad habit of getting easily distracted shows up. But as soon as I got a grip of my priorities, I regained my focus and keep on mashing up the prototype.

I put a table consisting of labels and progress bars. I code a basic scheduling system. I also take the card building mechanics I designed in my past prototype, "Distraction", on this project. Instead of browsing a list of activities our protagonist can do, how about I streamline the choices, I thought.

And after 2 days of focus and procrastination, I shipped it. My new loves the prototype and she can start producing the art asset.

Finishing this prototype gives me another boost of confidence that I can code and produce something. I also re-learned how to focus and postpone short term gratification, in order to complete something as fast as possible. My work ethics and discipline is improved from this activity. I need to develop even higher standard of discipline before I can take on Azeline again.
